Translation of Peggy Gou's Han Jan (한잔)

I’m a fan of Peggy Gou. While listening to one of her songs (Han Jan), I realized I could actually understand it (because it’s the simplest song she has lyric-wise :P). I googled for the english lyrics and there were none. All I found was this reddit post:

Hey dudes me and my girl here are high and were digging this new Peggy Gou song but we wanted to sing the lyrics without being like totally racist and stuff so we wanted the lyrics but there arent any so we were wondering if anyone could write them down for us.

If you dont want to do the whole thing, just the chorus is cool, thats our fave part. The bit that says han jan. Not the “enjoy your night” bit we already know english. Thanks.

Somehow the song is so fitting for that context. To help out future homies:

어젯밤에 데낄라 마셨네 = Yesterday night, drank tequila

Went home to crash on my bed

1 drink, 2 drinks, 3 drinks, 4 drinks, 1 shot

1 drink, 2 drinks, 3 drinks

After last night, now that I think about it

Even though I was drunk, I was happy

1 drink, 2 drinks, 3 drinks, 4 drinks, 1 shot

1 drink, 2 drinks, 3 drinks

You gotta do it right

Enjoy your night

You gotta do it right

Peggy Gou has an interesting interview on bandcamp where she talks about the decision to write lyrics in korean:

If you speak in English, then maybe it will be easier for people to sing along,” Gou says, “but it has been done too many times. I wanted to do something different, so I thought, ‘OK, why don’t I do it in Korean, which is my language.’

When she talks about It Makes You Forget/Itgehane (잊게하네), another song on the same album as Han Jan, she says:

Even with Koreans, it’s hard to understand the lyrics, because some of them are very philosophical, and some of the words in this track we don’t use anymore

Yeah, I’ll stick to translating her drinking songs for now :P
